Eddie Izzard on acting, activism, Mamet, and marathons

Eddie Izzard is best known as a transvestite standup comic. He is also a film, television, and Tony-nominated dramatic actor. He's a political activist for Britain's Labour Party; within 10 years he expects to run for mayor of London. Also an endurance athlete, he recently completed 43 marathons in 51 days to benefit Sport Relief, a charity that benefits the poorest and most vulnerable populations in the U.K. and across the globe.

The Merchant of Venice Announces Broadway Transfer

Following a sold-out, eight week run at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson), Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced today that they will transfer Daniel Sullivan’s critically acclaimed production of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE to Broadway this fall. Al Pacino will reprise his celebrated performance as Shylock for 78 performances only, beginning Tuesday, October 19 at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W. 44th Street) and running through Sunday, January 9.
