WALTER KERR THEATRE

219 West 48th Street

2012 Tony Award Winner for Best Play!

OVERVIEW

Clybourne Park is a “vital, sharp-witted and ferociously smart” (Ben Brantley, The New York Times) new play about race, real estate, and the volatile values of each that has won nearly every major theatre award, including the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, the 2011 Olivier Award for Best New Play, and the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Clybourne Park explodes in two outrageously funny yet piercingly observant acts set 50 years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as nervous community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to the Youngers, the fictional black family depicted in A Raisin in the Sun. This intersection with historical fiction continues in Act Two, which is set in the same house in the present day as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. Honored, acclaimed and completely hilarious, Clybourne Park has quickly become Broadway’s hottest ticket.

‘Since America elected its first black president, the conversation on race has turned just as loopy as the hilarious and audacious Clybourne Park.’ - New York Magazine
